Frequently
asked questions

What is life like at Mount Ephraim House?

Life at Mount Ephraim House is calm, friendly, and shaped around personal choice. Residents can enjoy freshly prepared meals, daily activities, relaxed time in the lounges, visits to the hair and beauty salon, and time in the gardens or terraces overlooking Tunbridge Wells Common. Some people enjoy a full social programme, while others prefer a quieter rhythm. Our role is to support each resident’s wellbeing, independence, and comfort in a way that feels natural to them.

Will I still have choice and independence in a care home?

Yes. Moving into Mount Ephraim House does not mean giving up choice, routine, or independence. We take the time to understand how each resident likes to live, from when they get up and what they enjoy eating to their hobbies, social preferences, and quiet time. Support is there when needed, but never in a way that takes over. Our aim is to help residents feel safe, respected, and in control of everyday life.

How do you care for residents living with dementia?

Our dementia care is built around familiarity, reassurance, and respect. We support people living with dementia in a safe and supportive setting, using personal routines, familiar belongings, adapted activities, and gentle communication. Residents are encouraged to personalise their bedrooms with photos, ornaments, and small furniture to create comfort and a sense of familiarity. Our team focuses on each person’s life story, preferences, and emotional wellbeing, so care feels thoughtful rather than rushed or clinical.

Can I arrange a trial or respite stay?

Yes, Mount Ephraim House offers short-term respite care. These stays can be helpful after illness, during recovery, when a carer needs a break, or when someone wants to experience the home before making a longer-term decision. During a stay, residents receive the same care, meals, activities, and support as everyone else, with our team helping them settle in gently from the first day. We also offer flexible, no-obligation trials as standard with all permanent placements, to help families make confident choices.

How is the transition into care supported?

We support the move into care with patience, planning, and clear communication. Before moving in, we take time to understand care needs, routines, preferences, health requirements, and what helps each person feel at ease. A highly-personalised digital care plan is created, and our team provides settling-in support during the first days and weeks. Residents are encouraged to bring familiar items for their room, helping Mount Ephraim House feel comfortable, personal, and reassuring.

What happens if my funds run out?

Mount Ephraim House offers Home For Life funding assurance, which means residents will be supported if their personal funds run out. As a not-for-profit care home, our focus is on care, continuity, and doing the right thing for residents, not shareholders. This provides added reassurance when planning long-term care, helping residents settle into a familiar home with confidence and continue to feel supported.

Mum moved into Mount Ephraim House in April 2024, initially for some respite care. At that point, she was living on her own and struggling to cope without full support around her for daily living. The stay with the team at Mount Ephraim was life-changing, and after having such a lovely break for 3 weeks, asked if she could stay! Luckily they still had a room available and Mum has settled incredibly well. It is lovely to see how happy she now is. With their care and love, she has improved dramatically in terms of her physical and mental ability with all the wonderful fitness groups, clubs and entertainment that the teams organise on a daily basis. Most importantly, Mum has built a wonderful group of friends amongst both residents and staff. Everyone is incredibly friendly, warm, understanding and supportive and all work so hard to ensure the best home-from-home experience for the residents. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Mount Ephraim House.
