A message from our care home manager

Grosvenor House care home manager Amanda Newport wearing glasses and a white cardigan.

After over 40 years in care, I still believe the first thing families should feel when they walk through the door is reassurance. Choosing care is a big step, and my role is to make that step feel calmer, kinder and more personal.

I began as a care assistant, so I understand how important the everyday details are, from a favourite meal to a familiar routine or a quiet moment when someone needs extra comfort. Since becoming a Registered Manager here in 2016, I have been proud to lead an extremely loyal and dedicated local team that treats residents as individuals, not tasks.

As a small home, we take pride in our highly-personalised care. We want every person to feel heard, respected, and able to enjoy life in a way that feels right for them. Whether someone joins us for respite, longer-term residential care or end-of-life support, we take time to understand what matters most to them and their family. You are always welcome to visit, have a cup of coffee and see the atmosphere for yourself.

Frequently
asked questions

What is life like at Grosvenor House Care Home?

Life at Grosvenor House is friendly, calm and shaped around each resident’s choices. Your loved one can enjoy sea views, comfortable lounges, freshly prepared meals, outdoor spaces and a varied activities programme. Some residents like to join social events, while others prefer quieter routines, and both are respected. The team takes time to understand each person’s interests, habits and preferences, helping them feel comfortable, included and supported day to day.

Can I arrange a trial or respite stay?

Yes, along with a flexible no-obligation trial on all permanent stays, Grosvenor House offers short-term respite care.. This can be helpful after an operation, during recovery, while a family carer takes a break, or when families want to experience the care home before deciding on longer-term care. During their stay, residents receive personalised support, freshly prepared meals, access to activities and full use of the care home’s facilities. You can speak to the team to discuss dates and needs.

How is the transition into care supported?

The move into care is handled gently, with time taken to understand your loved one’s needs, routines and preferences before they arrive. The team will complete an assessment, create a personalised care plan and involve family members wherever helpful. Staff support residents as they settle in, encouraging the use of familiar belongings, regular contact with loved ones, and a routine that feels comfortable. We can also help answer questions and provide reassurance during the early days.

Will my loved one be cared for by familiar staff?

Yes, consistency is an important part of care at Grosvenor House. The care home is led by Amanda Newport, who has 42 years of care experience and has managed the home since 2016. She is supported by a dedicated, long-standing team who take pride in knowing residents as individuals. Seeing familiar faces helps build trust, comfort and confidence, especially for residents who may feel anxious about moving into a new environment.

Can residents personalise their bedrooms?

Yes, residents are encouraged to make their bedroom feel familiar and comfortable. Your loved one can bring personal items such as photographs, ornaments, favourite bedding or small pieces of furniture, helping the space reflect their personality and memories. Many bedrooms have sea views, and practical features may include en-suite wet rooms, television points and phone points. The aim is to create a private, peaceful room where residents can relax, knowing that support is close by.

What happens if my funds run out?

With Greensleeves Care’s Home for Life funding assurance, residents will be supported to stay if their personal funds run out. This gives families reassurance when planning long-term care, knowing that their loved one will be supported to stay if personal finances changed over time. In addition, as a not-for-profit care charity, Greensleeves Care reinvests fees back into care, staffing, training and the running of its care homes rather than paying shareholders. This gives families additional reassurance that all funds go into supporting great care and residents’ experience.
