A message from our care home manager

Broadacres home manager Kim Lavery smiling in the care home lounge

My passion for care began at a young age, spending school holidays alongside my mother, who worked as a nurse in a care home. I loved listening to residents’ stories and seeing the difference compassionate care could make to someone’s life. That early experience inspired me to pursue a career in care, progressing from housekeeping into care roles and leadership. At Broadacres, I am proud to lead a long-standing, dedicated team who are committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care. Through ongoing professional training and development, we ensure residents are supported with dignity, respect and choice, while enjoying companionship, friendship and a fulfilling lifestyle in a warm and welcoming home

Frequently
asked questions

What does a typical day look like at Broadacres?

A typical day at Broadacres is shaped around each resident’s preferences, rather than a fixed routine. Residents can enjoy freshly prepared meals, time in the landscaped gardens, relaxing in the lounges, taking part in activities or simply enjoying quiet moments in their own room. Some may join trips, hobbies or therapeutic sessions, while others prefer a slower pace. The aim is to support comfort, independence, companionship and wellbeing every day.

How is the transition into care supported?

Moving into a care home can feel like a big step, so the team at Broadacres takes time to make the transition calm and reassuring. Before moving in, we get to know your needs, routines, preferences and what matters most to you. This helps us create a personalised care plan from the beginning. Families are encouraged to stay involved, and residents can bring familiar furniture, photos and belongings to help their room feel like home.

Can I arrange a trial or respite stay?

Yes, Broadacres welcomes respite care and no-obligation trial stays, including trial stays of up to six weeks. This can be helpful if you are recovering after illness, need short-term support, or want to experience life at the home before making a longer-term decision. During a respite stay, you receive the same care, meals, activities and support as permanent residents, helping you settle in comfortably and confidently.

What makes a not-for-profit care home different?

As a not-for-profit care home, Broadacres is run to benefit residents, not shareholders. Every penny is reinvested in the care, comfort, and daily lives of the people who live here. This supports staffing, activities, meals, facilities and the wider quality of care. Broadacres is part of Greensleeves Care, an award-winning charity, which also means residents benefit from the Home for Life commitment and a values-led approach to long-term care.

What happens if my funds run out?

Broadacres is part of Greensleeves Care, a not-for-profit charity with a clear Home for Life commitment. This means that if your personal funds run out, you will not be asked to leave your home. Our team will support you and your family in understanding the next steps, including local authority funding where appropriate. It gives residents and families reassurance that care at Broadacres is built around long-term security, dignity and peace of mind.

Does Broadacres offer day care?

Yes, Broadacres offers day care for older people from Monday to Friday, 8am–4pm, at a cost of £70 per day. Places can be arranged in advance by contacting the care home directly. Day care guests can enjoy nutritious meals, a varied activities programme, access to all communal facilities, and valuable companionship in a welcoming and supportive care home environment.

Ratings &
accreditations

Broadacres was recommended to us when we realised mum was going to need full time residential care after a number of hospital stays. I have to say that the staff have been nothing short of amazing since we first engaged with them. They have been so kind and provided the very best of care, easing the transition from independent living to care home with understanding and compassion. While still early days I think Mum will be happy at Broadacres, and as a family we can rest easier knowing that she’s in safe hands in a beautiful location that’s more akin to a country house hotel. Finally I also have to give a mention to the extra effort the catering team have gone to in accommodating Mum’s food preferences. The food served is excellent and one of the reasons the transition is going so well.
