Frequently
asked questions

How is life at The Briars?

Life at The Briars is calm, friendly and shaped around familiar routines. Residents can enjoy freshly prepared meals, comfortable lounges, garden time, activities, quiet moments and conversation throughout the day. We support independence wherever possible, while providing gentle help with daily living when needed. Our team gets to know each resident personally, so care feels natural, respectful and reassuring rather than rushed or impersonal.

Can I arrange a trial or respite stay?

We provide short-term respite care and a flexible 6-week trial period for those who would like to experience life at the home before making a longer-term decision. A stay includes personalised care, meals prepared on-site, activities, use of our shared spaces and support from our care team. Respite can also help after an illness, during a hospital stay, or when a carer needs time to rest.

How is the transition into care supported?

We take the time to understand each resident before they move in, including their care needs, routines, preferences, interests, and what helps them feel settled. A personalised care plan is created, and our team offers gentle support throughout the settling-in period. Familiar belongings, photographs and personal furniture can help bedrooms feel homely, while consistent care from friendly faces helps build confidence day by day.

How do you care for residents living with dementia?

We hold a long-standing reputation for providing exceptional dementia care on the Isle of Wight. We provide people living with memory loss 24/7 support in a safe and supportive environment. Our team gets to know each resident’s life story, routines, likes and dislikes, helping care feel familiar and reassuring. Activities are adapted to support confidence, comfort and connection, while secure surroundings help residents move around with ease. We focus on patience, dignity and meaningful everyday moments that support wellbeing.

Will residents be supported by familiar carers?

We believe familiar faces make care feel safer, calmer and more personal. Our long-standing team gets to know each resident’s routines, preferences, personality and the small details that matter, from how they like their tea to the activities they enjoy. This continuity helps residents feel more comfortable and understood, while allowing care to be shaped with kindness, patience and genuine connection. We are proud to make minimal to no use of external staff.

What happens if my funds run out?

Through Greensleeves Care’s Home for Life funding assurance, residents continue to be supported to stay at The Briars if their personal funds run out. As a not-for-profit charity, our focus is on care, comfort and long-term wellbeing rather than shareholder returns. This commitment reassures residents that they can remain part of the home they know, supported by familiar people, routines and surroundings.

My mum moved in as a new resident early Nov 2025. She was worried about the move and not knowing anyone but this was necessary for her well being and safety due to dementia. I’m very pleased and impressed with the home, I stayed with mum on moving in day and had lunch to settle her in. We struggled to settle her and the staff suggested we stay away for some days, which was very difficult for my father. It’s very clean, the staff are always welcome and have really helped to settle mum to her new way of living. They made a wonderful job of throwing an afternoon tea party for my mum’s 90th birthday and mid November. She’s making a few friends and joins in with some of the activities eg singing to music. The food is excellent and we joined her for xmas day dinner. I do not live locally and now I can relax knowing my mum is being care for and is safe.
