Location and home
Mount Ephraim House is situated in an exceptional setting. With a history dating back to the 17th century, it is an impressive, period building overlooking Royal Tunbridge Wells, with its excellent array of shops, cafés and restaurants. The home has delightfully well-kept, sheltered gardens and walkways. Much of the interior is classical with carved wooden ceilings, paneled walls and stained glass windows.

The home itself has a total of 38 single rooms, some of which have en-suite facilities. Although each room is fully furnished, residents are encouraged to bring in personal items such as pictures, ornaments and small items of furniture. The rooms are also equipped with a call bell system and TV point.

Additionally there is a main lounge, games room and a library as well as several smaller communal areas around the home. The home also boasts an art studio, potting shed and summer house. The magnificent gardens also feature a folly!
Care and services
We offer
• Residential Care
• Dementia Care* (we care for residents with Mild cognitive impairment (MCI)/early dementia)
• Respite Care

Our first priority at Mount Ephraim House is always the care and wellbeing of our residents. We ensure that they feel safe and comfortable at all times. Our staff are highly trained to deliver individualised care for those with general care needs as well as those living with dementia.

Our activities are personalised to suit our residents’ wishes and interests and to enable them to stay active and as independent as possible. We have a dedicated activities coordinator who organises a schedule of entertainment and activities that is woven into the fabric of the day. In this way we keep days interesting and fun for all.

Example activities include armchair exercise, music therapy, art sessions, helping in the garden as well as visiting speakers and musicians, book clubs, and trips out to local attractions & shops. We have a fantastic group of volunteers of all ages who come in and play scrabble and bingo, host quizzes or just chat over a cup of tea. There are regular visits from a hairdresser and chiropodist.

Our chef provides three delicious freshly cooked meals every day. There is always a choice given and extra snacks are available throughout the day.

The chef will discuss with new residents any allergies or special dietary requirements they may have. Families are encouraged to come and have meals with their family members should they wish to. Drinks stations are positioned around the home to encourage hydration.
What families say
“We took a long time to choose the right place for Mum but felt that the atmosphere and care provided at MEH was unlike any other place we visited. She lived there happily and ended her life there surrounded by the love and dignity she deserved. The staff take time to get to know each resident so that they remain independent and individual (rather than institutionalised). The whole place is run like a real "home", warm and friendly, and not a like a hospital or hotel (although there are high standards of medical and physical care). We especially liked the welcome the staff extend to the relatives and friends of the residents. We became part of the wider MEH family. I cannot recommend this place and the staff highly enough. Outstanding care, outstanding friendliness, outstanding management and outstanding value for money.”

Her optimism has been richly rewarded by the care home’s very positive attitude to providing residents with excellent facilities, and truly dedicated activities organiser who has enabled mum to continue her hobby of painting and drawing. News at Mount Ephraim House

Chinese New Year at Mount Ephraim House

Creative Minds  artist Jenny C, visited Mount Ephraim House for some fun creative art. As a result with the residents they decided to make a big sculpture in celebration of Chinese New Year. After a discussion with the residents a Chinese dragon idea proved to be the favourite! The residents made the dragon over several sessions. They all got really stuck into the project. The head has been made from recycled materials and papier-mâché.  The body has been made entirely from paper plates and tissue paper. The dragon is now proudly sitting on the wall of the resident's dining room where it can be appreciated by all. We've had some lovely comments from staff, residents and relatives. Most of all we are very proud of the residents fantastic achievement!

We think you will agree this Mount Ephraim House dragon sculpture is a magnificent beast!

Creative Minds is a arts organisation and social enterprise. They offer therapeutic art sessions to older people and those with learning disabilities.
