Buckler’s Lodge, a brand-new, luxury care home in Crowthorne, opened its doors to its first residents last week: a married couple who are beginning the next chapter of their lives together at the home, which specialises in both residential and dementia care.

Peter and Gwenda Vangucci were given an appropriate red-carpet welcome, complete with champagne and the newly assembled team of colleagues who have been eagerly awaiting their move-in.

Mrs Vangucci did the honours of cutting the ceremonial ribbon as she and her husband crossed the threshold to their new home.

Mr Vangucci gave a toast to the Buckler’s Lodge team, saying:

“You have all been so wonderful, and this place is so wonderful. We hope it is a tremendous success and we shall enjoy living here.”

In their earlier lives, the couple lived in Bracknell, where Mr Vangucci was based whilst he served in the RAF. They then moved to Ascot, where Mrs Vangucci worked as a doctor’s receptionist and Mr Vangucci was a Samaritans volunteer for just over 20 years and then spent 30 years as President of the North Ascot Community Association. The couple have travelled all over the world, including Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Next year will mark their 70th wedding anniversary.

The team at Greensleeves Care wish Mr and Mrs Vangucci all the best as they settle in and become a part of the growing Buckler’s Lodge family.
