A message from our care home manager

Feruna, Care Home Manager of Speirs House in New Malden

I started my career in care in 1998 as a carer before getting my diploma in nursing. After successfully improving an underperforming care home in my first management role, I joined Greensleeves Care and then became Home Manager at Speirs House in 2021.

Working alongside our dedicated team, today we have a Good CQC rating in all areas, and continue to maintain high standards of care. I am particularly proud of the partnerships we have nurtured with local healthcare professionals. And, as a home that caters for residential all the way to nursing and palliative care needs, being accredited by the Gold Standards Framework means we can give families confidence in the quality and continuity of our support.

We are proud of our beautiful grounds, our long-standing staff team and the welcoming atmosphere that makes Speirs House such a special place to live. We see residents and families as true partners in shaping life at the home – they are the key to our warm and supportive community.

Frequently
asked questions

What is life like at Speirs House?

Life at Speirs House is calm, friendly and gently structured around each resident’s preferences. Our small community helps care feel personal, with familiar faces, comfortable lounges, freshly prepared meals, garden views and activities that support wellbeing. We balance everyday comfort with strong nursing reassurance, so residents can enjoy a homely routine while receiving the right level of support.

What is the difference between residential and nursing care?

Residential care supports daily living, companionship, routines, meals, personal care and wellbeing. Nursing care includes this same support, with added clinical oversight for more complex health needs. At Speirs House, nursing care is a key strength, with trained care staff supported by qualified nurses and trusted links with healthcare professionals. Nursing support ranges from basic care to more complex requirements such as catheter care and changing, peg feeds, oxygen therapy and wound dressing.

How do you care for residents living with dementia?

We provide dementia care in a safe and supportive setting. Our team takes time to understand each resident’s routines, life story, communication needs and preferences. Calm surroundings, adapted activities and consistent support help residents living with dementia feel more settled, while personalised care plans guide daily care with dignity, patience and reassurance.

Can I arrange a trial or respite stay?

Yes. We offer short-term respite care for rest, recovery, carer breaks or a gentle trial stay. In addition, all permanent places with us come with a standard flexible trial period of up to six weeks, which allows residents to experience our care, daily routine, meals, activities and surroundings before making a longer-term decision.

What makes a not-for-profit care home different?

As part of Greensleeves Care, we are a charity-run care home. This means care fees are reinvested to support residents, improve the home, and strengthen our charitable mission. Our focus is on people, consistency, and comfort, not shareholders, helping us provide care that feels stable, compassionate, and values-led.

What happens if my funds run out?

Our Home for Life funding assurance gives residents long-term reassurance. As a not-for-profit care home, we continue to support residents if personal funds run out, subject to the commitment’s terms. This helps provide stability and peace of mind, with care shaped around continuity, dignity, and the resident’s ongoing needs.
