A message from our care home manager

Beverley Simms Dick Care Home Manager

Caring for people has been at the heart of my career for more than 35 years, and I still feel privileged to do the work I do every day. At Queen Elizabeth House, my focus is on creating a warm, supportive environment where residents feel safe, respected and able to enjoy life in the way that matters most to them.

Over the years, I’ve worked across a wide range of care settings and have led teams through periods of growth, improvement and positive change. Since joining as the home’s manager in 2013, I’ve been proud to work alongside a dedicated team that genuinely cares about the people who live here and the experience their families have with us.

Receiving the Best Manager Award at the Bromley Adult Care Awards 2023 was incredibly meaningful, but the greatest reward is knowing residents feel happy, comfortable and well cared for. Families can be reassured that their loved ones are supported by an experienced team with kindness, dignity and compassion at the centre of everything we do.

Frequently
asked questions

What is life like at Queen Elizabeth House?

Life at Queen Elizabeth House is calm, friendly and personal. With only 28 bedrooms and a long-running team, we are small enough for people to know our residents’ names, routines and the little things that matter to them. With us, residents can enjoy fresh meals, landscaped gardens, comfortable lounges and a varied activities programme, while choosing how much they want to join in. The aim is simple: to help them feel settled, supported and at home.

Can I arrange a trial or respite stay?

Yes, we offer respite care and flexible trial periods for all our permanent stays. This can be helpful if you are recovering after a hospital stay, need short-term support, or would like to experience Queen Elizabeth House before making a longer-term decision. During their stay, long or short all residents receive personalised care, freshly prepared meals, access to activities and support from our experienced team, giving them time and peace of mind.

How is the transition into care supported?

We take time to make moving into Queen Elizabeth House feel as calm and reassuring as possible. Before a resident arrives, we get to know their needs, routines, preferences and any support they may require. This helps us create a personalised care plan for you that is digital and updated regularly. Once you move in, our team gently supports residents as they settle, helping with daily routines, introductions, meals, activities, and familiar comforts from home.

Do you use agency staff at Queen Elizabeth House?

Queen Elizabeth House is known for its long-serving leadership and familiar team. The same experienced manager has led the home for well over a decade, and our approach is built around steady, personal care from people who take the time to get to know every resident properly. While every care home may occasionally need extra support, we focus on continuity and minimal to no use of external staff, so daily care feels familiar, reassuring and shaped by people who understand our residents’ routines.

Can I visit the care home before making a decision?

Yes, visits are warmly welcomed. A visit gives you the chance to see the bedrooms, lounges, dining areas and landscaped gardens, meet the team and get a feel for daily life at Queen Elizabeth House. You can ask questions about care, routines, activities, meals, respite stays and funding. We want you to feel informed and comfortable, without pressure, before deciding whether the home feels right for you.

What happens if my funds run out?

Queen Elizabeth House offers Home for Life funding assurance, which means support is available to help residents stay in care if their financial circumstances change. As a charity-run care home, our focus is on care, comfort and wellbeing rather than shareholders. Every penny is reinvested into the home, the people who live and work here and running a sustainable charity. This helps provide reassurance that your future care will be supported with dignity and continuity.

We couldn’t be happier with the care provided to mum at Queen Elizabeth Home. Her transition to residential living was handled with care and sensitivity and she has adapted better than we could have hoped, thanks to the wonderful staff and management here. There is a real sense of community. Among staff, residents and relatives. We are 100% happy that mum is in the best possible place and thankful that she is in such a warm and caring environment
