George and Mary Gregson are happy to share their story and reflect on their life together at Tickford Abbey Care Home in Newport Pagnell.

The couple first met as teenagers at a village hall dance, a moment they still describe as “love at first sight.” Now approaching 70 years of marriage, they continue to live side by side at Tickford Abbey.

They moved into the home in 2021 following a recommendation from family. When they first visited, George says it “just felt right,” and taking up the offer was “the best decision we’ve made.” The warm welcome and reassurance that they could remain together made the transition easier.

Life at Tickford Abbey allows them to enjoy each day with the comfort of knowing care and companionship are always close at hand. They take part in activities, spend time with friends, and value quieter moments such as eating breakfast together, walking in the grounds, reading, and going out for meals with their family who live locally.

Both have faced health challenges during their time at the home. When Mary had a mild stroke, the staff acted quickly, and she recalls feeling “completely safe” throughout her recovery. After George’s bowel cancer surgery, he describes the care and aftercare as “incredible,” giving them both peace of mind at a difficult time.

Reflecting on the move, George says that “while it is a big change, being open to new surroundings can lead to a very happy and fulfilling life.” Today, they both say they are “very happy here.”

Their story is one example of how Greensleeves Care supports couples to continue living together, with dignity, companionship , and personalised care.
