In July, Torkington House care home in Acton teamed up with a group of young people on The Challenge programme. This programme, delivered as part of National Citizen Service (NCS) and suitable for young people aged 15-17 from different backgrounds, is designed to develop key skills and inspire young people to take on a more active role in their communities. The Challenge programme is delivered by The Challenge Network, a national charity that seeks to connect and inspire people to strengthen their communities.
As part of the programme, the young people came to share their skills and spend some time with the care home’s residents. They visited Torkington House three times. Together with care home staff, they organised an Alice in Wonderland Tea Party for the residents, followed by various games and singing. On their last day of the project, young people raised awareness about Torkington House in Walpole Park in Ealing Broadway and encouraged people to come and volunteer at the care home.
