The three winners Torkington House (l-r) – Esperanza Guidaven, Nayana Mudiyanselage and Margaret Siriwardena

Staff and residents at Torkington House in Acton are celebrating after winning not one, but three prestigious national accolades at an annual event that recognises excellence across care homes in England.

The Greensleeves Care Awards celebrate talent, compassion and innovation from across the not-for-profit group’s homes across the country. With over 1,900 employees, the awards honour achievements across a wide range of categories, including outstanding care practice, leadership, teamwork, community engagement, dementia care, and resident wellbeing.

Torkington House – named among the Top 20 homes in London in 2024 by independent reviews platform carehome.co.uk – was singled out from among 300 nominations and recognised in the Manager of the Year category, with Margaret Siriwardena receiving a certificate and a cash prize to be spent in the home. The category celebrates exceptional leadership and a commitment to fostering high-quality, person-centred care.

Margaret was praised for her calm, compassionate leadership style, and her ability to unite and inspire her team. With nearly two decades of experience, she has helped maintain Torkington House’s outstanding carehome.co.uk rating and its reputation as one of London’s top care homes. Families speak highly of her empathy, professionalism and the nurturing, respectful environment she creates.

The home also bagged two more awards: Excellence in the Provision of Dementia Care, awarded to Esperanza Guidaven for her clinical knowledge, mentorship and commitment to best outcomes for residents living with dementia; and the Unsung Hero award, given to Nayana Mudiyanselage for his extraordinary patience, kindness and ability to build trust with residents, especially those with complex needs.

Margaret Siriwardena, Home Manager at Torkington House, said:

“We are so incredibly proud to receive these awards – it’s a real honour not just for each of the winners, but for the whole team. These recognitions are a testament to what we do best – providing high-quality, person-centred support, and going above and beyond to help people feel good about care. It’s wonderful to be noted among a group of brilliant care homes nationally, and we are thrilled to keep building on this success for the benefit of our entire community at Torkington House.”
