Case Study: Pam at Grosvenor House

Mrs Pam Hoad, 89, lives at Grosvenor House in St Leonards-on-Sea. A keen volunteer within the home, Pam covers the reception desk every weekend, letting people into the home, sorting out post and taking calls.

Pam likes to keep busy, and throughout the week she takes part in so many clubs and outings that her daughter jokes she has to make an appointment just to see her!

In 1968, Pam and her sister formed a ‘young wives’ group in the local area and Pam is proud to say the group is still running today, saying:

“Although we are not ‘young’ anymore, nobody wanted to leave the group!”

Pam is involved with her local church and is a keen hand-bell ringer, having performed at many Christmas concerts. She also belongs to a church group who fondly refer to themselves as the ‘Seenagers’ – a combination of ‘seniors’ and ‘teenagers’.

When asked what advice she would give to younger people, Pam said:

“Be reliable and responsible. Particularly for younger women- if you live with a man, make sure you don’t do absolutely everything together. It’s important that you have separate interests!”
