Dementia versus normal ageing

Many of us get a little more forgetful as we get older.  Most of us will take a bit longer to remember things when we get distracted, and we may struggle to multi-task as well as we did when we were younger. This may become especially noticeable from middle age – usually in our 40s, 50s and early 60s.

These changes are normal, but they at times can be quite a nuisance and we might feel frustrated. You can understandably worry that these changes are an early sign of dementia. It’s important not to worry or read too much into it. For most people, these changes will be the result of a normal ageing process and not related to dementia.
