Can care home residents vote?

Of course! Living in a care home does not remove any of your civil rights, and the right to vote is included in that. In normal (pre-COVID) times, residents will receive all the help they may need to attend their local polling station and vote in person. While the restrictions on care homes due to the pandemic might make in-person voting riskier (and at times prohibited due to government guidelines on shielding) there are a number of other options to ensure residents can vote.

Postal voting: care home staff will assist residents, if necessary, to register for a postal vote. Several of our care homes set up a voting booth within the home for residents filling in their postal ballots, to ensure the privacy that would be afforded to them at a polling station.

It is vitally important that the older population has their say in local and national politics, and your care home will make sure that if you would like to vote, you are able to do so safely and privately.
