L-R: Residents Barbara, Margaret and Jenny.

Residents at Harleston House celebrated the much-anticipated National Pizza Day on Wednesday 9th February, and were thrilled to receive a generous donation from Domino’s Pizza in Lowestoft.

Residents at the Greensleeves Care home took part in a Design Your Own Pizza activity on National Pizza Day, which resulted in some interesting combinations of toppings such as ‘hog roast with apple sauce and camembert cheese’ and ‘blueberry and cream with sweet gum gums.’

Gareth Harding, Harleston House’s activities co-ordinator, sent a letter to the local Domino’s Pizza branch in Lowestoft to share the residents’ creative designs and ideas and see if they were able to create them in-store.

The staff at Domino’s were so impressed with the pizza ideas that, although they were unable to produce the residents’ quirky designs, they kindly donated a selection of pizzas (with slightly more traditional toppings!) for the residents’ evening meal.

Lewis Rose, Store Manager at Domino’s Lowestoft, responded to the residents:

“I am incredibly impressed with the work and effort you have put into these fantastic contributions for pizza topping ideas. I love the creativity and variety especially the idea of a Cherry Pie Pizza and cream topping. As a thank you for your wonderful ideas please accept these free pizzas and have tea on us this evening”.

Resident Margaret Crow said, “I can’t believe it, how wonderful that they have done this for us” and fellow resident Jenny Bales said, “I love pizza and will enjoy them tonight with my friends”.

Gareth’s approach to activities at Harleston House is very much community-focused, as he is always looking for ways to engage the home’s residents with their neighbours and the wider Lowestoft area.

Gareth said:

“This is a great outcome to one of our group activities for National Pizza Day. The residents are so pleased that their ideas have been received and appreciated. This has made the activity more meaningful, and I am delighted with Domino’s for this lovely and kind gesture.”

Thank you to the team at Domino’s Lowestoft for their kind donation!
