First photos have been issued of The Meadowcroft, a newly built Greensleeves Care home opening in February 2023 which will deliver additional spaces for residential, nursing and dementia care in SW17.

A purpose-built home featuring modern facilities, The Meadowcroft is extending and upgrading the provision of care home beds locally.

The home will be a space fit to deliver Greensleeves Care’s award-winning care to older people from the local area and beyond. It features 64 bedrooms and spacious communal areas including lounges, a café, a cinema, hairdresser and landscaped gardens. Crucially, the rooms have their own private en suite wetrooms – an important part of modern standards of care and a feature in short supply locally.

Part of the new neighbourhood emerging around the historic Springfield University Hospital, The Meadowcroft pays homage to the local area, starting with the name itself: the site the home sits on was originally meadows full of flowers which were cultivated there for research/development works by local horticulturalist, Peter Barr. This is where the name for the hospital came from and has now inspired the name of The Meadowcroft.

Names of different areas of the home have also taken inspiration from the area’s proud history, including each ‘wing’ of the home being named after nearby iconic landmarks including Fairlight, named after Fairlight Hall in Tooting, which opened in 1905 as a soup kitchen and school for disabled adults and children.

Shona King, Director of Business Development at Greensleeves Care, said:

“The home mixes the best of the old and the new: an established community of residents and professionals to welcome new joiners from day one, and a brand-new modern environment fit to deliver Greensleeves’ award-winning care.

“Greensleeves Care is excited to be joining the local community, particularly within the Springfield development itself. which will provide opportunities for intergenerational connections, something which is extremely important to all Greensleeves Care homes.”

Residents and staff from Ronald Gibson House, a care home operating currently on the site and due to close in early 2023, will be transferring to The Meadowcroft. The new home is already receiving enquiries from new residents and those keen to discuss a care placement for themselves or a loved one at Tooting’s newest care home should call 0208 154 5337.
