Alf, a 95 year old resident at The Briars care home in Sandown on the Isle of Wight, was whisked away to Hovertravel Ltd in Ryde. This visit was part of the Hovercraft becoming dementia-friendly and engaging local organisations to help with this task.
Whist Alf and staff from The Briars attended the event in Ryde, Alf wanted to test his fitness and took part in a cycle challenge. His aim was to support a younger cyclist in her early twenties in the challenge, as he felt that she shouldn’t do it on her own.
Having an engineering background, Alf was very keen on sharing his technical knowledge with the visitors and letting them know how the Hovercraft was built, how fast it travels and he also volunteered to ‘fix it’ if needed.
Alf said of his visit to Hovertravel: “I had a great day and it was nice to be out and about.”
