At our specialist dementia care home, Harleston House, in Lowestoft, residents organised and run the home’s annual Summer Fete with the support of their relatives and staff. The event turned out to be a big success, with bright and sunny weather, a record number of attendees and a record £1,100 raised for the Residents’ Christmas Party.
Jenny Bales, a resident, said: “The turnout was unbelievable, there were so many people, and I couldn’t believe my eyes.”
Gareth Harding, Activities Coordinator at Harleston House, said: “It was a bigger and better event than last year; the residents, staff and residents have gone above and beyond once again, it was great to see so many people enjoying themselves.”
The fete featured professional stall-holders with a range of items varying from sweets to handmade cushions. Jo Harmer from the Bespoke Sweets and Treats said “We had an amazing afternoon at Harleston House and sold out of our unicorn product. Thank you for inviting us back again this year for another successful event.”
Reegan, a five-year-old boy that attended the fete, said: “It was the best day of my life.” Reegan along with many other children enjoyed the bouncy castle, ice-creams, lucky dip and squirt the duck game.
Susan Graham, Home Manager said: “Our residents spent a long time preparing and taking part on the day; it was their day and their fete so to see so many people come to support us was amazing.”
