Who we are
Speirs House philosophy is to do all we can to ensure happy residents in addition to happy staff and happy relatives. First of all you need a positive environment and a well-developed, innovative team. You also need opportunities for fun and meaningful activities and opportunities to grow and extend oneself no matter your age!
Our responsibility as caregivers is to facilitate, to make ourselves available in addition to being creative. We need to be up to date with our training and thinking, and finally to network with other carers in our community so we learn every day.
Skilled and confident nursing staff
Nursing the elderly is a specialist field and skilled and confident nursing staff are essential; particularly as peoples needs become more complicated. Because of this we invest heavily in our Nursing and care teams, be this with training or just day to day support and help.
I have been involved in caring for the elderly since the age of 16 and have given much thought to what we do and how we do it. For a home to be successful we need to have less ‘I’ and more ‘we’. We need to forget about ‘arriving’ and instead concentrate more on “enjoying the journey”! If we get this right our residents will live better more positive lives and our staff will enjoy each day more than the last.
