The Briars is a large, modernised, Victorian house set in interesting and attractive gardens in Sandown, Isle of Wight, with good transport links to the rest of the island. All the bed-sitting rooms are for single occupancy and have en-suite facilities. The home has a team of highly qualified, dedicated carers, and offers a variety of activities.
The home is able to provide care for older people with dementia.
Accommodation
The Briars has a total of 32 bedrooms with en-suite facilities. Each room is fully furnished to a high standard. Residents are encouraged to bring in personal items such as pictures, ornaments and small items of furniture. Residents may have a telephone in their room at their expense. The rooms are also equipped with a call bell system, TV point, easily accessible light switches and plug sockets. In addition, we have a number of assisted bathrooms/shower rooms.
Dining
Our catering team is committed to providing interesting and nutritional meals. Residents are offered a varied menu for each meal, with a choice of tasty and well presented food. There are a variety of dining areas and residents choose where they eat. All medical and special diets are catered for.
Staffing
A qualified and experienced Manager and team provide 24 hour management cover for the home, and they are ably supported by trained care assistants, catering and domestic staff.
Facilities
The home has a variety of large and smaller lounge and dining areas, as well as conservatories that give various views of the garden (which includes an aviary, raised beds and a water feature). There is a choice of TV areas and a small library. There is a passenger lift to all floors and a call system throughout the home.
The home arranges a regular programme of activities, outings and trips for the residents alongside spontaneous activities. There are also regular visits by a hairdresser and chiropodist.

The Briars is the most southerly home in the group. It was established in 1947 with help from the Lord Mayor’s Air Raid Distress Fund.
